Which agents work with REA
REA 6.5.0 (October 2026) setup can register 24 agent clients, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI.
REA works with agents that support local MCP servers. Official setup configures the clients in the table below (docs/installation.md, checked 2026-10-17 (UTC)). Run:
npx rea-agents@latest setup
Pick clients in the multi-select (or pass --client), approve the plan, then restart those agents. Some client IDs need rea-agents@6.5.0 or later.
Supported clients (--client values)
| Client | --client value |
|---|---|
| Claude Code | claude_code |
| Claude Desktop | claude_desktop |
| Codex | codex |
| Cursor | cursor |
| Gemini CLI | gemini_cli |
| Windsurf | windsurf |
| Devin | devin |
| OpenCode | opencode |
| Antigravity | antigravity |
| GitHub Copilot CLI | copilot_cli |
| Command Code | commandcode |
| Qwen Code | qwen_code |
| Kimi Code | kimi |
| VS Code | vscode |
| Grok Build | grok_build |
| OMP | omp |
| Pi | pi |
| Hermes | hermes |
| Qoder | qoder |
| Factory Droid | droid |
| Trae | trae |
| WorkBuddy | workbuddy |
| ZCode | zcode |

Version gate: droid, dsh, kimi, qoder, trae, workbuddy, and zcode require rea-agents@6.5.0 or later. They were absent from the checked npm 6.4.0 package.
Grok Bot uses a manual hosted connector (see upstream client-configuration docs), not the same local auto-setup path as the table.
What setup does for an agent
- Offers multi-select of supported agents (existing REA registrations pre-selected).
- Adds MCP access for selected clients.
- Installs REA's bundled workflow/skill by default (
--skill=falseto omit). - Optionally proposes Hopper install (separate approval).
- Can save verified Ghidra paths into registrations.
Detection ≠ permission: newly detected clients are not auto-selected.
Verify one client
rea doctor --client codex --json
rea doctor --client cursor --json
Manual MCP registration
Clients outside the table (or custom layouts) can use manual MCP registration. Prefer setup when the client is listed so paths and skills stay consistent.

FAQ
Why is my new client missing after setup on 6.4.0?
Upgrade to 6.5.0+ if the client is one of droid / dsh / kimi / qoder / trae / workbuddy / zcode.
Do I need to re-approve after rea update?
rea update returns a maintenance plan for existing registrations/skills without applying it. Run the returned scoped setup command, approve, then restart.
Claude Desktop keeps losing the server
Quit the app fully before approving setup; a running instance can overwrite the registration.
Is Copilot Chat in the IDE the same as Copilot CLI?
Setup lists GitHub Copilot CLI as copilot_cli. Other Copilot surfaces may need manual MCP config — check upstream client-configuration docs.
Does listing an agent mean RepoRead endorses it?
No. The table is copied from REA's installation doc for accuracy.
